Choosing Your Officiant

Choosing the perfect officiant, it’s not as easy as it sounds. There are so many factors that go into choosing a professional officiant.

One of the big trends these days is that people are moving away from the friend officiant and moving toward a professional. The reason being is that they’ve seen so many bad weddings done by friends that most couples these days want something that’s more professional.

So, when choosing a professional officiant many things come into focus, like how you connect with the audience and making sure your personalities match, showing your guests who you are as a couple. This is why I am so thankful that I have a team of 37 professional officiant’s each one has a different personality type and quirk.

Many couples these days are moving away from the so-called traditional ceremony and moving more to a ceremony based on their story and their individual lifestyle.

Couples are integrating their favorite movies and TV show elements into the ceremony as well as crazy things that have happened in their life.

Couples have ditched the unity candle for more creative unity Ceremonies. From potions to coffee to peanut butter and jelly unity to doing shots and drinking wine. I had one couple of they love pizza so much that we made a unity pizza during the ceremony and then the chef threw it in the oven and it was ready when they walked back down the aisle.  Nontraditional is the key these days and most people realize that while a friend may know them better a true professional officiant can really make their vision of reality.  It’s just not a practice session or an audition for their friend anymore.

Most planners I know are really trying to get there couples away from the non-professional friend and I are opting for something that they know will work within the timeline, vision, and scope, along with all the other professionals needed to make a wedding amazing.

So many people discount the ceremony part of the experience. My job and my team’s job is to have our couples commented that the ceremony was the favorite part of their day. And that’s what we do as professionals.
